The
Dancing Bass, the King of the Soneros or the Lion of
Salsa: Whatever you call him, Venezuela’s Oscar D’Leon
still rules the salsa domain (leon means lion in Spanish).
With more explosive energy and macho good looks than
the young pretenders to his crown, D’Leon continues
to demand attention as evidenced by his most recent
release, “Fuzionando,” a Grammy-nominated tour de force
that spices up driving salsa with hints of reggaeton
and flamenco fusion. D’Leon is not only the charismatic
improvising voice (sonero) behind ubiquitous salsa floor-filler
“Lloraras,” he’s a bassist with renowned swing who dances
with his instrument as if with the woman of his dreams.
A consummate showman who has exported salsa all over
the world without ever forgetting his gritty roots as
Caracas’singing bus and taxi driver. This is his first
visit to Japan in 15 years and first nationwide tour
in a thrilling career stretching back more than 35 years.
Come listen to the Lion roar!
